The bootcut is the most resilient fit. Not only due to its repeated comeback, but also because of its rugged background. Originally designed in the 19th century for cowboys, they were inspired by sailors’ trousers. Snug at the hip with a slight flare from the knee down, these jeans have transcended their utilitarian origins. Similar to the flared, the bootcut was the epitome of the countercultures of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Symbolizing freedom and rebellion – values they still communicate today.
In the early ‘00s, the bootcut made another return, this time in a more body-hugging and low-waisted version. With fashion being in a continuous cycle - and thanks to Lamar’s recent Super Bowl outfit - bootcut jeans are now back again. Especially for men. “It was quite exciting to see Lamar experimenting with a new fit,” Jennifer Zipp, Director of Denim Design at G-STAR, explains. “Usually, it’s women who are trying out different styles.”
